Tonya Nicole

Tonya Nicole, born Tonya Smalls Williams, is a beautiful breath of fresh air on stage. This small statured, powerhouse vocalist, who’s a PK originally from the tiny town of Holly Hill, SC, has been making her rounds and leaving audiences feeling more than satisfied. She’s a true performer with an aura of old-school class and style. The City Paper describes her voice best, she is “blessed with a deep, willowy voice capable of improv-inflected runs… her vocals gives her music a powerful immediacy”.

Tonya Nicole released her first EP in 2022 entitled #1996KindaLove, which pays homage to her long lasting marriage and relationship with her husband. It was ranked one of Charleston’s City Paper’s top albums of the year. She also produced and was featured in the Queens of Hip Hop Soul Tribute show at Charleston Pour House in 2022, in which she, along with 3 other powerhouse vocalists, paid homage to Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Faith Evans and Mary J. Blige.

Tonya Nicole grew up listening to gospel and later turned to jazz, R&B, and then NeoSoul & Funk. She loves to create music that infuses all genres, and it is most certainly reflected within her music. Because of her love & appreciation for different types of music, Gospel, Jazz, Funk/Soul, R&B, and even a bit of Pop it is experienced when listening to her original works. As an artist and performer, her only wish when creating and performing is that her audience has an opportunity to escape their world, even if it’s only for a moment, and just FEEL all of the “yummy goodness” her heart wishes to share with the world.

Her tribute to Erykah Badu will undoubtedly be one for the books.
