Back 2 School Bulungula!
WorldThrive is pleased to announce that a fundraiser will be held at the Charleston Pour House on Sunday September 14. The event will be featuring local musicians DJ Kurfu and the Key of Q. Each ticket purchased will also be entered into a raffle and prizes will be awarded to show our appreciation for your support. There will also be a silent auction featuring the artwork of several local artists. Doors open at 7:00p.
Our current project, which is also our first, is to raise money that will go to the building of an off-grid school in the remote village of Nqileni (the “q” is click sound) in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. We are raising money to benefit a project already under way by the Bulungula Incubator, which is a South African Non-Profit Organization that is also working with other NPOs such as Breadline Africa and the South African Ministry of Education.
After a structural failure, the local school in Nqileni collapsed and the teachers now only teach 3 days a week at best; only 5 days are taught in all of October. There is no food, furniture, books, toilets, water and the average attendance is approximately 40%. Solar panels have already been donated to the project that will provide the school with electricity, which is a first for the remote village!
The money we raise in this initial drive will go directly to the Bulungula Incubator to help them realize their Phase I goal for funds. They have already begun Phase I construction even though they are about 18,000 U.S. dollars short. The dry season, which is the only time building is possible, is short and we would like to help them reach completion this year.
Please join us at the Pour House on Sunday September 14 to help raise money for this wonderful village. Our website is still in its developmental stages; the best way to view this project is by visiting the Bulungula Incubator http://bulungulaincubator.
