June 12th – 16th

Heal with HeARTS and Slow Food Charleston’s Tiny Tastemakers will come together the week of June 12 with the Charleston Pour House to celebrate Summer with many of the people, activities, and foods that make Charleston such a great place to call home. Children ages 4.5-12 will be welcomed daily with morning yoga and will participate in hands-on lunches hosted by Charleston chefs. Each day will be comprised of activities that revolve around specific themes:

The Lowcountry Waterways: Touch tank exploration, shrimp prints in the style of Japanese gyotaku, sushi rolling, and designing a Lowcountry mural for The Pour House.

Cultures of the Charleston: We’ll be learning about the beautiful cultures of our home and the historic ties to the caribbean and West Africa through indigo tie-dyeing, basket weaving, storytelling and more!

Plants and Pollinators: By enjoying the fruits (and vegetables!) of summer in the garden, we’ll learn about all the small miracles that have to happen to bring food to your table. We’ll get dirty making seed bombs, explore herbs, spices, edible flowers and other flavors with all of our senses, make pasta with Pasta Poppa (to enjoy with the summer bounty), and create a fairy garden to take home.

The Arts: We’ll move our bodies in dance with homemade musical instruments, work on our Pour House mural, learn what it feels like and sounds like to be on stage, and work with our friends to put on a show!

Field Day Fun: Bringing back all the classics you parents remember from your childhood with tug-o-war, sack races, egg toss, water balloons, and all sorts of good summer fun.
